Happy International Day of the Girl

Centuries and decades their have being strives and stresses women and girls have endured as just being women in society. Most of women's oppressions are very outdated and restrictive stereotypes that keep women from speaking their views and voices against social issues such as sexism and racism. Women are increasingly raising their voices against the actions to achieve greatness for themselves and women in the world.

In this current presidential state, women are having more courage to stand up for themselves without think of compromising themselves in the process. Its an impactful day for girls around the world because its International Day of the Girl. International Day of Girl is declared by the United Nations to have worldwide enthusiasm for goals to better girls' lives, providing an opportunity for them to show leadership and reach their full potential. For example, Lit World, founded in 2007 by an educator Pam Allyn visited Kibera in Nairobi, Kenya. She witnessed kids desire to read and to be educated. From their her and her team created the program the advocate for communities in 25 counties across 5 continents. "From the girl in Kenya who is no longer afraid to raise her hand and speak up in school to the boy in India who now wants to grow up to be someone who helps people to the young woman in New York City who is the first in her family to go to college: This is the LitWorld story," stated in their website. In places like Cambodia, reimaging what any girl can achieve despite being taught and treated to be less than their male counterparts, like being submissive towards to men and being out of school. Its a long way to go in it comes to women in diversity and rights, there are improvements such as Saudi Arabia that has lifted its banned to allow women can drive. However in the U.S. it has gone backwards on the progression on women's health coverage like the Trump administration letting employees the right to not provide no-cost birth control for religious moral reasons. " We must lead our education and make it relevant. We must make space for us," actress and activist Yara Shahidi said during The Power of an Educated Girl event for Glamour Magazine. The event addressed girls from different girls clubs like Girls Inc of New York with guest speakers.

In a tweet above with the hashtag #FreedomForGirls, the charity UNICEF emphasized the importance of freedom for girls worldwide to live without fear of violence, The post had the quote writing: "Investing in girls helps them build better lives and create a more peaceful and prosperous world for ALL." Encouraging us to listen to girls who may be small, but are definitely angry, the video displays some fierce dancing, but the message of the day — this year with the theme "EmPOWER girls: Before, during and after conflict" — is clear. Every five minutes a girl dies as a result of violence, the video displays. One in four girls gets married as a child. 71% of human trafficking victims are female. 63 million girls worldwide have undergone female genital mutilation. Girls are twice as likely to be infected with HIV. Unicef's video isn't just a feel-good Beyoncé singalong, it reminds us that girls no matter how small, have a right to be angry. We hope that the people in Congress and in office can govern but with equity. As much as we can be victims in systematic way as our genders we are and can be survivors. We can also hope these type of celebratory days encourage ourselves to create opportunities so that the person next to us feels validated and represented too.

Quote of the Day:

"We've always been essential to the narrative. We have always been integral, important and essential."-Yara Shahidi
