The Teen Vogue Summit held in Los Angeles, California, could not have come at a better time. Teen Vogue established their first gathering of activists, like public figures like (Auntie) California Congresswoman Maxine Waters and Hilary Rodham Clinton. Clinton who made a stamp in politics as the first woman to come close to becoming 45th president of the United States. Hillary Clinton is adorned by many and she is a great model for young girls. This generation of young women and girls feel anger that her name has been dragged though tons of lies made up by a Republican financed group of writers and internet trolls. HRC raised hundreds of millions for Democrats for years and in every State 2016. She also donates millions of her income yearly as we saw in her tax records she shared. This is a great idea for a place for young women to meet, talk and learn about all things, not only fashion and beauty. There were people who really use their voices to the greater good despite their platform of entertainment or social following. More encouragement is needed for young people, especially young girls & women, often valued by their appearance rather than their talents and abilities. That kind of thinking can damage ones confidence. Encouraging Civic involvement will result in more women in leadership roles in government & voices at the table Around 9 a.m. on Saturday, a long line of artfully clad young women was forming around a beige corporate park. They had flown, driven, pleaded with their parents and assembled posses for the inaugural Teen Vogue Summit: a two-day event, costing from $299-$549 per ticket. Attendees broke into smaller groups for workshops, “mentor sessions” and panels. Merchandise included a $39 crop top that read “resist the gaslight.” There were even attendees like Irving, Texas natives Karishma Bhuiyan,18, and Muram Ibrahim,17, that started a GoFundMe page for them to attend the event. One of the attendees that was in the panel was actress Storm Reid, who is lead role in a Disney movie directed by Ava Duvernay "A Wrinkle of Time." Reid who has been acting since she was 3 years old and was in another Ava Duvernay directed movie 12 Years A Slave. She stated that "I didn't know about slavery" when she got the role in 12 Years A Slave, which is about a freed man taken in as a slave for 12 years.

She said in the panel that she watched the most influential TV show in black history Roots, that tells a generational story that traces down a man's family history from slavery to his current life as an author. Film is an indicator that its important to provide good representation. Ava DuVernay took the opportunity to put together one of the most diverse casts in cinema history. She stated in the panel that it was important to show diversity in race as well as body types among Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling are part of the star-studded cast. Film can inspire new ideas and perspectives. For example, Rowan Blanchard who was also in the panel and co-star in Wrinkle of Time, said it didn't occur to her that there wasn't a black Disney princess until Princess Tiana in Princess and The Frog film in 2009. She said she grew up looking at Disney Princesses that looked like her it took her aback by the lack of no other representation in Disney princesses that showed Eastern European features. Films like Princess and the Frog and upcoming Wrinkle in Time will open young generation of how representation is a valid component in self-esteem and diversity.
