Ways to Feel Super as election is Pooper
The news that Trump is President-elect has struck a core in our hearts and hope for humanity for millions of people. The latest is public protests and heart felt messages on social media from people where lives have changed just by Trump potentially being in office. The announcement of his presidency is a complete shock to more than half of this country especially people of color, most women in general, LGBTQ, Latinos, and all other Democratic voters. A lot people are feeling discouraged, hopeless, confused, sad, embarrassed and angry. As you have every right to feel what you feel. Unfortunately, we have no say on who represents our country but do NOT lose faith. I have listed several things to help you distract yourself from this shocking news. "There is no enemy within, the enemies outside cannot hurt you."
1. Cry: Yup. Get it all out. Everyone's emotions are heightened. Its okay. You are definitely not the only one who has been crying for hours.
2. Rest: Get off your phone. Most of the things you see are about the thing you're upset about. Don't argue with people.
3. Do something spiritual like pray, mediate (breathe in 8 counts and breathe out 4 counts and repeat), and listen to uplifting music.
4. Reach out to friends and family: Now its a good time. No time better than now.
5. Eat: Sometimes feelings get in the way that can distract us from daily things and obligations. Be good to your body especially when under stress.
6. Create, Write, Speak: Whether its alone or with others, get your thoughts out. Make it productive. Come up with solutions and express yourself. I, like many people are more creative when I'm not happy with a situation.
7. Distract Yourself: Netflix, Netflix, Netflix! Watch something funny, like cartoons or funny movies and TV shows, watch anything and everything that makes you happy.
8. Focus on your community: Small steps take you to big places. What does YOUR community need? How can you give back? How can you support others? There is so much we can do! Call or write to local officials such as your mayor, governor and local police officers to build relationships.
9. Be Selfless: Volunteer. Join support groups, creative clubs like art club, theatre, Ecology club etc. Help the less fortunate. Make a better tomorrow for someone.
